Winner Recap: AFROPUNK Paris

August 13th, 2019

Iman from New York won a trip to the city of love to attend AFROPUNK Paris!

After the experience, we caught up with her to hear all about her trip to Europe. Here's what she had to say about it...

Propeller: How did you find out about Propeller and what type of actions did you complete to earn points towards winning this experience?

IMAN: I originally found Propeller through Afropunk's Earn-A-Ticket program! I signed petitions, registered to vote, donated to a few of my favorite non-profits, and watched a bunch of quick call-to-actions.

Propeller: What was the highlight of your time at AFROPUNK?

IMAN: Besides being surrounded by rhythm and beautiful black faces, Solange sang F.U.B.U into my eyes. She stepped down from the stage, walked to the crowd. Looked me dead in the eye and sang the song. Granted she also sang to others around me, but WOW.

ap-paris-croppedPropeller: What was your favorite performance and why?

IMAN: Solange. Her dancers, background vocals, band — they all had choreography. Beautiful choreography. And her music is made with my identity in mind. She speaks  on the pressures of black womanhood AND is out here creating visuals and short films, elevating black aesthetics and what not.

Propeller: Which was your favorite part of your time in Paris?

IMAN: Walking around the city. My mom and I walked everywhere, around six miles a day. Really we wanted to see as much of the Parisian architecture and style as we could.

Propeller: Which non-profits at Propeller are most important to you and why?

IMAN: ACLU and The Ally Coalition. I'm for the causes they both support.

Thanks to everyone who took part in the campaign!
