You Belong. REFORM Alliance's Campaign Empowering Second Chances, Building Stronger Communities

You Belong is an initiative launched by REFORM Alliance to raise a voice for Second Chance Month. We believe everyone deserves a chance to build a fulfilling life, regardless of their past.

For too many returning citizens, the transition home is riddled with barriers. They may face a lack of community support, difficulty accessing employment opportunities, or impediments to obtaining adequate health care or mental health resources. This creates a cycle of struggle that makes it difficult to reintegrate successfully.

Each of these barriers is compounded by a supervision system that penalizes people for simple mistakes instead of providing them with incentives to build a productive life. This has devastating implications on individuals, families, and communities alike.

Studies show that successful reintegration leads to safer communities. When returning citizens have access to meaningful employment, they're better equipped to build stable lives, contribute positively to society, and break the cycle of recidivism. Nationwide, nearly 44% of people released from prison end up returning in less than a year. It's a shocking number, but it doesn't have to be this way.
